A Summer Filled with Tufting – Autumn Brings Workshops, Exhibitions, and Open Studio Days

4 min read

Summer is still here, but here at Ateljee Piccolo i'm already looking ahead to an exciting autumn. The past few months have been filled with inspiration, new ideas, and above all, tufting. Several new textile artworks have come to life in the studio, and countless hours have been spent experimenting with colors, textures, and compositions. There is always something magical about watching yarn transform into a soft, sculptural work of art.

On top of everything else, I also had the chance to do a new photoshoot with the incredibly talented photographer Susanna Oksanen. Some of the photos have already found their way to my Instagram and Facebook profile pictures. Absolutely stunning shots—thank you so much, Suski! 🩷🌷🩷

This summer has also been a wonderful opportunity to draw inspiration from other artists. Visiting exhibitions is an important part of my own creative process, as every exhibition offers fresh perspectives and new ideas.

One of the highlights of my summer was visiting Iikka Lehtinen's exhibition in the Crypt of Helsinki Cathedral. The historic setting combined with the thought provoking artworks, creating a memorable and inspiring experience that stayed with me long after my visit.

Another unforgettable summer moment was attending an Edu Kettunen concert in the beautiful surroundings of Asikkala. A warm summer evening, stunning scenery, and wonderful live music created the perfect atmosphere—exactly the kind of experience that fuels creativity and inspires new artistic ideas. Thank you Fmaily Hägg.

Summer isn't over yet, and there's still one destination high on my wish list. I'm hoping to visit Bonga Castle to see the vibrant and joyful works of Riitta Nelimarkka. I've admired her bold use of color and instantly recognizable style for years, and I'm looking forward to experiencing her work in person.

My Tufted Artworks on Display in Helsinki This August

Throughout the summer, I've been working on a new collection of tufted artworks, and I'm excited that exhibition season is just around the corner.

During August, you can see my latest tufted pieces at Lovely Goodness Gallery, located in the beautiful Ullanlinna district of Helsinki at Jääkärinkatu 6.

If you happen to be in Helsinki, I'd love for you to stop by. One of the greatest joys of exhibiting tufted art is seeing visitors discover the rich textures, colors, and three-dimensional qualities of each piece up close.

Let's Meet at Habitare!

Another major highlight this autumn is Habitare 2026 at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre, where I'll once again be exhibiting my work.

Habitare is one of the year's most inspiring design events, bringing together designers, artists, craftspeople, and everyone who appreciates creativity and beautiful craftsmanship.

If you're visiting Habitare from September 2–6, please come and say hello! I'd love to meet you, answer your questions about tufting, talk about my creative process, discuss materials and techniques, or simply chat about art and design.

Autumn Tufting Workshops Are Now Open for Booking

Although we're still enjoying summer, it's the perfect time to reserve your place in one of our Autumn Tufting Workshops.

If you've been looking for a new creative hobby, want to learn the art of machine tufting, or simply wish to spend a relaxing day creating something with your own hands, our workshops are designed for you.

Our Beginner Machine Tufting Workshop teaches you:

  • Safe use of a tufting gun

  • The fundamentals of machine tufting

  • Designing your own artwork

  • Finishing techniques

During the workshop you'll create your own tufted textile from start to finish and take your completed piece home the very same day. No previous experience is needed—beginners are warmly welcome.

Workshop saturday dates (time: 10-15:00) :

  • August 15

  • September 19

  • October 10

In October, we're also offering our popular Tufting Trimming Workshop, (Saturday 17.10, time: 10-13:00 ) where you'll learn professional finishing techniques for tufted pieces. With a maximum of four participants, the small group size ensures plenty of individual guidance and hands-on practice.

Open Studio Days at Ateljee Piccolo

This autumn we're also planning to host Open Studio Days at Ateljee Piccolo.

The exact dates will be announced later, but everyone is welcome to stop by.

Come and see what happens inside the studio, explore tufting tools and materials, ask questions about tufting, learn more about our workshops, or simply enjoy the creative atmosphere. If you've been curious about tufting but haven't yet taken the leap, this will be the perfect opportunity to see the process in action.

Creativity Grows Through Inspiration and Connection

Over the years I've realized that creativity isn't shaped only by the hours spent in the studio. It also grows through exhibitions, concerts, conversations, travel, and the people we meet along the way. Every artwork we experience and every inspiring encounter leaves a small mark that often finds its way into future creations.

I hope we'll have the chance to meet this autumn—whether at Lovely Goodness Gallery, Habitare, one of our Ateljee Piccolo tufting workshops, or during our Open Studio Days.

Thank you for following my creative journey, and welcome to spend an inspiring autumn filled with color, texture, creativity, and the joy of making something with your own hands.

I look forward to seeing you soon!
