(Wetterhoff esittely)
Absolutely wonderful! After a few quieter weeks, I’ve finally been able to play with the tufting gun again and work with the lovely Finnish wool. Inspired by Autumn, I started making a fall-themed rug where I can freely play with colors. Although the piece is still unfinished, it reflects the bittersweet farewell to summer, but at the same time, the anticipation of the beautiful autumn and its colorful leaves. Even when it rains and the wind blows outside, my family, friends, and tufting have given me strength and energy. Just looking at those beautiful colors creates a positive feeling, and when I can arrange them into my own craft, I can't help but feel joy and inspiration.
For many, autumn is the toughest time of the year. The bright summer days are now just a memory, and the darkness begins to take up more space. Add the rain and strong winds, and the atmosphere can easily become gloomy. Many people feel that autumn drags down their mood, but for me—perhaps because I was born in September—I gain energy from the fall winds and the bright colors of nature. September gives me strength, even though I sometimes have to battle the seasonal fatigue.
Tonight, however, I got an extra boost from the wonderful people who stopped by the Wetterhoff shop in Hämeenlinna, where I was doing a tufting demonstration. It was amazing to showcase mechanical tufting and chat with curious customers about the craft.
Wool plays a huge role in my textile art. Its versatility and softness make it the perfect material for interior rugs, like wall decorations. Wool products not only look beautiful, but they also bring warmth and texture to a room, making it more cozy and inviting. As I mentioned in my previous blog, wool's natural sheen and insulating properties make it an excellent material for a textile artist. Additionally, its hypoallergenic and eco-friendly qualities make it a more sustainable and ethical choice for interior design.
In this project, I mostly used the lovely Hahtuva wool from Pirtin Kehräämö, but I also added a bit of Norwegian Snow yarn, which is wonderfully sturdy yet soft.
Even though autumn brings its share of gray days, nature and textile work give me the space to create and feel joy—playing with colors and the softness of wool provides just the kind of lift I need to get through the darker days and evenings of autumn.
